Quinta Recreo was established in 1945, in an old XVII century converted tannery by Sonia and Enrique Cervantes, two
talented artists who traveled from Europe to join the group of painters that congregated in San Miguel de Allende in the 1940s,
led by David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo and Diego Rivera.
Well known international artists and writers became guests at Quinta Recreo including “El Indio”
Fernandez, Montenegro, York Wilson, Fred Tailor, Richard Marx, Jim Croce, Leona Boyd, Anita and Kiran Desai, to name a few.
